Pat’s pop Cork to raise National Under 15 Cup

TEN-MAN St Patrick’s Athletic stormed to a 4-0 victory over Cork City and, with it, the SSE Airtricity Under 15 National Cup at Richmond Park on Sunday.

The match was a mere ten minutes old when the Inchicore side struck, Cian Kavanagh heading home a loose ball that was the result of Ben McCor-mack’s parried free kick by goalkeeper Darragh Burke.

They could have been out of the box even sooner had McCormack and Ross Fay been that bit more ruthless when they pounced on a defensive mix-up, but their attempts were cleared.

They had to wait until three minutes after the break before doubling their advantage, McCormack producing a sublime delivery into the path of Fay who made no mistake with his finish.

Just when it looked as through the Saints would cruise home, they were given pause for thought when goalkeeper Joshua Keeley was dismissed after upending Rob Walsh just as he was through on goal.

Still, Cork were unable to capitalise on their numer-ical superiority and conse- quently shipped a third when another McCormack delivery injected panic in the City rearguard and Cian O’Malley took the opportunity to produce a fantastic over-head kick to the target.

Kavanagh then served up his second and St Pat’s fourth towards the close of the match when he latched on to a long ball over the top and maintained his composure to lob the Cork netminder from distance.
