Permission for wellness facility at former bookies

A COMMUNITY-BASED wellness facility has been given the green-light by planners in South Dublin County Council.

Dublin Vineyard CLG, sought change of use permission for the conversion of 519 Main Street in Tallaght Village.

When the premises was last in use, it housed a bookmakers.

In the description of the proposed list of works with the application, the plans for ‘The Well’, as it has been named in documentation, were outlined as including internal alterations and modifications.

This section of the proposals included the removal of internal walls and the part levelling of floors to assist with achieving universal access.

There was the provision of a new hardwood sign fitted to the existing signage frame which is mounted to the building on the property.

Following a request for additional information by the council, the applicant submitted a revised floor plan showing the internal party wall with a new central opening and the existing timber plank doors retained.

Elevation drawings show that there will be a timber sign that reads “the well – creative community space” fronting the public plaza space.

On May 16, 2022, the local authority signed off on the plans and granted permission subject to 10 conditions.

This time, the council requested that the existing windows be retained and repainted while the original timber plank doors are to be repaired using the correct method and materials.

“The areas of internal wall should be made good after the insertion of the new central opening in accordance with the correct methods and materials,” the documentation reads.

There is also a condition which outlined that a proposed planter be placed along the edge of the applicant’s northern ownership boundary to prevent vehicular access to the pedestrianised plaza.

Particulars around operational noise, signage restrictions, photographic record of the plaza and footpath, construction noise and hours and minimising air blown dust are included in the conditions.
