Permission granted for drive thru and fast-charging hub

PERMISSION has been granted for the construction of an electric fast-charging hub and a drive-thru coffee building at the Applegreen service station on the Naas Road in Rathcoole.

Petrogas Group Ltd lodged the planning application last April, where it outlined its plans for the service station.

The plans include the development of eight electric fast-charging spaces to the west side of the petrol station, and a 24/7 drive-thru coffee building.

The drive-thru coffee building, totalling 167sq. m, will contain a beverage area, seating area and back of house area including storage, lobby and toilet facilities.

It will be a single-storey building with a maximum ridge height of six metres and a minimum ridge height of 3.6m.

Provision of three signs on the building, the ancillary development of refuse compound, four free-standing signs, one free-standing height restrictor and a substation is included.

Permission was also granted for 31 car parking spaces, internal vehicular access, internal circulation road, paving, a pedestrian entrance with steps, landscaping and boundary treatment.

It’s noted in the application that 13 existing car park spaces will be removed to facilitate the proposed development.

On January 18, South Dublin County Council granted permission for the works, with a number of conditions.

These conditions include the removal of one parking space that was meant to serve the drive-thru café, no signage can be erected without prior permission, and a noise survey is to be carried out and sent to the council following the completion of the development.
