Pfizer development is expected to create several hundred jobs on site

INTERNATIONAL pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has submitted its plans for a new five-storey manufacturing building that will be built in two phases at Grange Castle Business Park.

As reported in The Echo earlier this month, the development is expected to create several hundred jobs at the site, which already employs hundreds of people across the county.

The application was received by South Dublin County Council on July 8, and is for the development of a 20,320 sq m building in the first phase and a 14,320 sq m building in the second phase, with both building including a single-storey link.

A single-storey extension to the existing warehouse building and a three-storey extension to the east of the existing laboratory building is also included within the proposal.

New site works that are included within the application are for 565 car parking spaces, of which 282 are relocated spaces due to the construction of the plans.

Included also are 350 permanent car-parking spaces for sustaining construction, with contract personnel using a portion of the existing temporary contractor car park. Following construction, this car park is expected to be decommissioned.

Also included within the plans is the development of a 56 sq m security building, along with revisions and alterations to the existing road on the site.

The application is for a 10-year period of permission for the development, with a variation to a previously permitted development that requires a licence under the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992.

Third-party submissions on the application will be accepted until August 11, with a decision on the application due by September 1.

There are around 3,300 people employed by Pfizer across sites in Dublin, Sligo, Kildare and Cork with the company having a presence in Ireland since 1969.
