Planned curtailment of 27 bus lifted; service running as normal on election day

THE NBRU has confirmed that the 27 bus service will run as normal on polling day, following assurances received at a bus forum meeting this morning.
This week, the NBRU (National Bus and Rail Union) announced plans to curtail the 27 bus on election day due to ongoing anti-social behaviour.

In a bid to raise awareness of the issues and encourage better attendance from local elected representatives at the monthly bus forum, it was announced that the 27 would not travel past The Square between 9am and 6pm on Saturday, February 8.
However, after a bus forum meeting this morning, the NBRU confirmed that it has agreed to restore the 27 following representations made by Deputy John Lahart (FF), councillor Charlie O’ Connor (FF) and Deputy Sean Crowe (SF).
In a statement released this afternoon, NBRU General Secretary Dermot O’Leary said: “Representatives from the NBRU today attended the Tallaght Forum meeting to discuss the issue of the withdrawal of the 27 bus service through Jobstown.
“The forum is structured to provide for bus drivers, through their respective Trade Unions, Gardai, local community representatives and politicians to engage on issues associated with anti-social behaviour which, unfortunately have increased alarmingly over recent months.”
Mr O’ Leary said that it has been “disappointing” that a large number of local representatives have not been fully engaging with the Forum over recent months.
He added that following representations from Deputy Lahart, Cllr O’Connor and Deputy Crowe that assurances have been given by Dublin Bus and the gardai that “resources will immediately be provided” to assist in combatting anti-social behaviour in affected areas.
“The NBRU has subsequently agreed to restore the 27 service to these areas”, Mr O’Leary said.
The 27 bus service will run as normal on Saturday, February 8.
