PLANS for the construction of a new road within the Adamstown Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) were lodged with South Dublin County Council this week.

There are plans for the development of a new 480-metre road, to be known as Central Boulevard, to consist of a six-metre-wide carriageway.

It is proposed that this carriageway will be divided by a three-metre-wide landscaped median, with bus lanes, landscaped verges, off-road cycle lanes and footpaths to be located on each side of the median.

Provision for public lighting, trees, and a pedestrian crossing from a new junction with Adamstown Way are included in the application, as are plans for a new signalised junction with the realigned Tandy’s Lane.

The proposed roadway will pass through part of the lands at Airlie House, which is a protected structure, however, no works are proposed to Airlie House itself.

Completion works to an existing 180-metre section of Central Boulevard roadway, currently constructed to base course, to now provide an off-road cycle lane together with a planted verge, tree planting, public lighting and footpath, are included in the application.

A decision on the application is due from South Dublin County Council by September 27.
