Playground to get makeover

Playground to get makeover

A PLAYGROUND which has been the subject of “ongoing issues”, including vandalism, since it first opened has now been earmarked by South Dublin County Council for improvement works, which will be carried out by the end of the year, reports Aideen O’Flaherty.

The playground in Ballycragh Park has attracted anti-social behaviour for several years, with The Echo reporting in 2016 that the park was attracting groups of teenagers who were loitering in the playground.

Independent councillor for Rathfarnham, Deirdre O’Donovan, told The Echo: “The playground is in a great location, it’s beside a community centre and there are lots of estates with young families nearby, but there have been continuous problems with it from day one.

“Many other councillors, as well as myself, have raised issues about the playground before, so it’s fantastic that it will be getting a makeover and a revamp.

“With the location that it’s in, it should be teeming with kids all through the year.”

A spokesperson for South Dublin County Council told The Echo: “The council is going to replace the fence and gates at Ballycragh play space which have suffered from vandalism since opening.

“We will be improving the surfacing at the swings and topping up the sand and woodchip areas elsewhere in the play space. The works will be carried out before the end of the year.”
