Playspace opens in Dodder Valley Park

A new playspace was opened on May 25 at Old Bawn, Dodder Valley Park. This playspace was partially designed and voted on through the new 300K Have Your Say Public Participatory Budget process, reports Steven Reid.

Members of South Dublin County Council were present to inaugurate the opening of the park, with the Mayor of SDCC, Councillor Emma Murphy, being joined by other local Councillors, staff of SDCC and other guests to celebrate this event.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Murphy said: “Play is recognised as a vital activity for healthy child development. Children also need time in nature for their physical and mental wellbeing.”

She added: “Integrating a playspace into this well used park has brought more life into it right throughout the day.”

Part of the 300K Have Your Say initiative as it pertains to this park was directed towards creating a space for younger children and toddlers specifically to enjoy.

The playspace was noted to contain a sand play area, a slide, a wobble belt bridge, a balance trail, a basket swing, as well as two cradle swings and two flat swings.

There are three new playspaces intended for the area spanning Dodder Valley Park and the connected play trail, with this space at Old Bawn being the first.
