Plaza Hotel under new management
By Mary Dennehy
THERE’LL be no dancing at the Plaza for the foreseeable future, with the hotel’s new management taking a decision to close the nightclub.
The closure of the nightclub at the Plaza marks the first time in decades that Tallaght has no nightclub, after Level 4 and Entourage joined Cocos and Club 2000 in the dance history hall of fame.
Plaza Hotel is under new management
When first opened, the nightclub at the Plaza Hotel was famously known as the Playhouse, which, over the years, underwent a number of make-overs until finally becoming Show Dublin.
International hotel management company Prem Group has in recent weeks taken over the management of the six-storey, four-star Tallaght hotel on behalf of NAMA.
With around 80 employees, the 122-bedroom hotel is believed to be on the market for a reported €14m.
However, despite numerous attempts, The Echo was unable to get confirmation on the hotel’s current status.
The Echo understands that new management Prem Group is operating the hotel and bar Grumpy McClafferty’s as normal, alongside Thai restaurant Gin Thai – which opens Thursday to Sunday.
The hotel remains on the market, inclusive of basement nightclub, so any future owner may decide to bring Tallaght back onto the dancefloor.
