Positive feedback from children and parents at Halloween events

A FRIGHTFULLY good time was had by children and young people who took part in well-attended events in the Brookfield Youth and Community Centre in Tallaght on Halloween.

Younger children came along to the family Halloween party in the afternoon, which was followed by a teenage disco that evening where they were DJs, refreshments, and awards for the best costumes.

Sandra Lambert, manager of the Brookfield Youth and Community Centre, told The Echo: “We had tremendous feedback, and we had a lot of new people who came.

“It was very positive, and we had some very enthusiastic parents and children.”

The events included prizes for the best costume, while centre staff also competed to win best staff costume – with the prize being getting every weekend in December off work.

The children voted for the winners, which added to the community-led spirit of the two popular events.

“We decided to hold the events because last Christmas I sat down with teenagers from the area and we planned our events for the year with them,” explained Sandra.

“They’re involved in everything that goes on here and we value their thoughts, ideas and help.

“They plan events, help with shopping for them, cleaning up and also food preparation.

“The aim is for us to have festive events within the community where everyone is welcome to come, and they’re affordable.”

This is the third year that the community centre has held Halloween events tailored to young people from the area, and the plan is to make them even bigger and better next year.

Sandra added that she wanted to thank South Dublin County Council and Foróige for their support with the events.

The next event in the community centre’s calendar is the AGM, which will be held in the centre on Tuesday, November 28, from 7pm to 8pm and all members of the community are welcome to attend.
