Proposals for 8,000 homes in Clonburris to be launched

DRAFT plan proposals to deliver 8,000 new homes in Clonburris, will be officially launched by South Dublin Mayor Paul Gogarty on Friday.
A six-week public consultation period for South Dublin County Council’s Clonburris SDZ (Strategic Development Zone) will take place between Friday, September 22 and Friday, November 3.
Plans for 8,000 homes catering for a population the size of Wexford town, are expected to provide housing for between 24,000 to 30,000 residents.
The largest landowner in Clonburris, Cairn Homes, is scheduled to be in a position to start building there early next year and could provide homes costing less than €300,000.
SDCC say it is confident that the development on approximately 280 hectares of land, will have a central role to play in addressing the demand for new housing in Dublin.
The scheme will include the provision of three primary and three post primary schools and approximately 98 per cent of residents will be able to access a bus stop within 400 metres or a train station within 800 metres, thereby significantly reducing dependence on the private car.
The lands will be serviced by two train stations at Kishoge and Clondalkin/Fonthill, and connected to the N4 and N7 national routes by three regional roads, including the Outer Ring Road.
Daniel McLoughlin, Chief Executive of SDCC, said: “The co-ordinated development of the lands at Clonburris represents an opportunity for SDCC to directly respond to the demand for new housing in Dublin.
“The draft planning scheme for the SDZ will allow the construction of housing in close coordination with the delivery of public transport infrastructure, schools, community facilities, parks, retail and employment related development.”
Mayor Paul Gogarty said the success of the Clonburris SDZ “depends on the active participation of communities, businesses, residents and members of the public.”
