Proposals to convert offices into a 38-unit family hub

PROPOSALS for the conversion of an office building on Airton Road into a family hub have been lodged with South Dublin County Council.
Applicant Killart Limited has sought planning permission for the change of use and conversion of an existing, vacant two-story office building to ‘provide 38 residential accommodation units to be used as a family hub’.

The planning application provides for 16 units at ground floor and 22 units at first-floor level, with communal kitchen facilities, storage space, family rooms and internal and external play spaces.
The proposed development also includes staff and ancillary rooms, 19 bicycle and 45 car-parking spaces at ground level, and paving, planting, landscaping, lighting and new boundary walls.
Vehicular, pedestrian and cycle access to the proposed development will be maintained via the existing access point on Airton Road.
The planning application also seeks retention for ‘minor new and altered window arrangements’ to the north (front) and west (side) elevations.
The existing two-storey building, once home to Paddy Power, was purchased by Killart Ltd in 2017.
According to a design statement lodged with the planning application, it is proposed to ‘transform’ the building in order to ‘provide high-quality, residential units’.

All of the 38 units will be ‘naturally ventilated’ with their own en suites, bedrooms and living areas.
The living accommodation will be supported by amenities such as catering kitchen, dining hall, domestic kitchens, living rooms, study and activity areas, toddlers’ room, counselling room, laundry, stores and staff facilities.
A playground and a ‘considerable’ amount of planting and trees are also included in the design.
A decision by South Dublin County Council is due by January 6, 2020.
