RAMS social group and choir receive plaque in recognition of contribution to community
A LOCAL retired men’s social group and choir received a plaque in recognition of their contribution to the community and various charities in St Finian’s Community Hall in Newcastle last week.
The Newcastle-based Retired Active Men’s Social (RAMS) and its choir, called RAMS in Rhythm, proudly accepted the plaque from the Newcastle Lyons Development Trust.
RAMS in Rhythm are well-known around the area for their uplifting performances in areas like the Square Shopping Centre, Peamount Hospital, and the Citywest refugee centre.
They have raised thousands of euros over the years for many charities as a result of their performances, including St Vincent de Paul and First Responders 4 Districts.
Matt Dowling from RAMS in Rhythm told The Echo: “Last week, the RAMS in Rhythm received their award from the Newcastle Lyons Development Trust, for their tremendous contribution to the community and the raising of such large amounts of funds for various charities.
“We were so privileged to receive an award for our commitment to the Newcastle community and the wider communities.”
The plaque was presented as part of a wider Community Week celebration that was led by the Newcastle Lyons Development Trust, which the RAMS in Rhythm also sang at.
It capped off a busy few weeks for the group, which saw them perform for over 300 men at the Citywest refugee centre, and at the Capuchin Day Centre where they performed for guests and staff.
RAMS in Rhythm’s next event is in the Square on September 22 from 12 noon, to raise money for Our Lady’s Hospice’s coffee morning.
“The RAMS are always so grateful to the management of the Square, for facilitating us at the main concourse and to the delight of all the patrons, and shoppers,” added Matt.
“It is a busy time now for the group, as with community events, visits to nursing homes, Tallaght University Hospital, Peamount Hospital, and fundraising soon in Whitewater Newbridge for the Down Syndrome Kildare.
“With Christmas fast approaching, we will soon be practicing our carol singing, and Christmas songs – so a busy time ahead for us RAMS!”
