Rapid-build houses start at St Aidan’s in Tallaght
Construction has begun on rapid-build social houses on the land of St Aidan’s halting site in Tallaght, with South Dublin Council giving a deadline of summer 2018 to complete the project.
The houses on the Brookfield site will consist of 80 rapid-build three-bedroom units and will be constructed along with five Traveller accommodation units.
The housing provision includes two-storey houses primarily grouped in terraces, or semi-detached layout. There will be 41 three-bedroom, two-storey units for four people and 39 two-storey, three-bedroom units for five people.
There will also be five Traveller Group Accommodation Homes and a new park/play area.
The plans also include access to the site via Brookfield Road.
The site was originally earmarked for permanent housing, however, following announcement of the national housing strategy, Rebuilding Ireland, the plans were delayed and the site was instead chosen as one of the rapid-build housing sites that are required in the county as part of the strategy.
Rapid-build housing at the St Aidan’s site made it the first project of this type in South Dublin County.
Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy announced last month that he approved the construction of a further 53 rapid-delivery units at three locations in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot
