By Brendan Grehan
A RATHFARNHAM man has been charged with 78 counts of indecent assault against a female in the 1980’s.
He appeared in custody in Tallaght District Court before Judge Patricia McNamara.
The 51-year-old with an address in Rathfarnham, is charged with 78 counts of indecently assaulting a named female at various locations in South Dublin on dates in the 1980s contrary to Section 10 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Act, 1981.
Garda Terry Brosnan told Judge McNamara that he had arrested the man at his address that morning.
He said the man was later charged in Rathfarnham Garda station and made no response to each charge.
Garda Brosnan said the DPP had directed trial on indictment and asked for a remand for service of the book of evidence.
The man was represented by his solicitor, Eddie O’Connor.
In response to Mr O’Connor, Garda Brosnan said there was no objection to bail.
The man was granted legal aid.
Judge McNamara released the man on bail and remanded him to a date in July for service of his book of evidence.
