Red Cow Luas bus stop is too far and isolated for passengers
By Aura McMenamin
A MOTION has been tabled requesting that Dublin Bus and Transdev reroute bus services into a dedicated bus stop within the grounds of the Red Cow Luas stop.
Clondalkin Sinn Fein councillor Mark Ward said the closest bus stop to the Red Cow Luas, which the 13, 68 and 69 buses serve, is too far and in an isolated area.
Cllr Ward said: “At the moment Dublin bus does not provide a direct service into the Red Cow Luas station. The nearest bus stop is quite a distance away. This bus stop is in an isolated area, is very dark at night and mornings and does not have any shelter
“A number of constituents have raised this issue with me as they feel that the bus stop is too far away and they feel quite vulnerable at night and early mornings.”
Cllr Ward said that while the Luas service was ‘brilliant’ and welcomed the recently opened cross-city Luas, he said that his constituents felt that it did not cater to them.
He said: “The Luas is a brilliant service and with the addition of the cross city Luas it is even more so, but it does not cater adequately for the people of Clondalkin. A lot more people would feel comfortable using this service if there was a direct link into the Red Cow Luas station.
“I have tabled a motion calling for both Dublin Bus and Transdev who run the LUAS service to meet and discuss this issue. The Red Cow LUAS station is already set up for Bus’s to use as private operators use it daily.”
Cllr Ward added that the addition of Dublin Bus directly from the Red Cow would also encourage more people to visit the Round Tower Heritage Centre, which opened in the summer.
He said: “This change would see residents in Clondalkin able to avail of the LUAS easier and it would also provide a link from the LUAS for visitors to Clondalkin who wish to visit the Round Tower Heritage centre.”
