Red Line Book Festival to open another chapter

THE Red Line Book Festival is about to open another chapter in its successful history, as the community-based festival prepares for another celebration of all things literary.

Running from October 12 to 16, this year’s festival will provide another stellar line up of local, national and international writers alongside an energetic programme of events and workshops for people of all ages and interests.

The festival celebrates all things literary, be it spoken, written, sung, played, illustrated or thought, with the line-up covering everything from history to drama, poetry to music and literature to debate.

According to South Dublin Libraries, which organises the festival: “Do not put off attending [the festival] if you are not a big reader.

“You don’t have to read to be inquisitive and that is what this festival is all about… [and] fuelling the imaginations of people who are eager to learn and explore new ideas and opinions.”

To date, a number of well-known faces have been confirmed for the five-day event including award-winning writer Anne Enright, food blogger and model Roz Purcell, Dublin novelist and playwright, Dermot Bolger, and Irish broadcaster and author, Myles Dungan.

Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin, who, the founder of Inkwell, is considered to be Ireland’s leading literary scout, will also be coming south-side and judging the festival’s short story competition – which is currently accepting entries.

Free to enter, the short story competition will be open to submissions until September 5.

The exciting and unique programme of events will be brought to life in venues right across the county – with the Chocolate Warehouse in Walkinstown also coming on board this year to host a fun Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed children’s event.
