Relay for Life remembers those who have lost their lives

RELAY for Life South County Dublin will be launched in Rua Red in Tallaght this Saturday, February 10, from 3pm to 5pm.

Attendees at the event can meet survivors and staff from the Irish Cancer Society, and they can back the Relay for Life by registering teams, purchasing candle bags or signing up to volunteer.

The main Relay for Life, which will take place in Corkagh Park on June 1, is a 24-hour event centred on remembering those who have lost their lives to cancer and celebrating cancer survivors.

The event is opened by a lap by cancer survivors and features a candle bag ceremony to remember those who have passed away, and the money raised goes to the Irish Cancer Society.

Clondalkin woman Caroline Corcoran, who is a co-founder of Relay for Life South County Dublin alongside Paula Haverty, takes part in memory of her mother Catherine McGrane, who passed away in 2013 after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

She said the launch this weekend is a way for the community show their commitment to Relay for Life South County Dublin and for those who are unfamiliar with it to find out more.

“Get ready to make a difference at this exciting event happening on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 3pm,” said Caroline.

“We are thrilled to invite you to Rua Red, South Dublin Arts Centre, where we will kick off this incredible initiative.

“Relay for Life is a community-driven event that aims to raise funds and awareness for cancer research and support services.

“By participating in this event, you become a part of the fight against cancer and help make a positive impact on the lives of those affected.

“At this event, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the committee, watch our fantastic footage from relay 2023, register teams, meet survivors and Irish Cancer Society staff, purchase candle bags, or sign up to perform or volunteer.

“Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn more about this fantastic community fundraising/healing event.

“Join us as we come together as a community, celebrate life, and honor those who have battled cancer.

“Together, we can make a difference!” To register your attendance, order a free ticket on Eventbrite under the heading Relay for life South County Dublin Launch or call 086 308 5541.
