‘Remain calm’ following series of violent incidents
A COUNCILLOR has asked the community to “remain calm” following a series of violent incidents in West Tallaght in recent days.
At approximately 4.30pm on Sunday evening, a man was hospitalised after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries in a suspected shooting at Russell Place.
Later that day, at approximately 6.25pm, a man in his 20s was arrested following an assault in Mac Uiliam Drive, which saw a man in his 30s being hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 4pm, gardaí were called to the scene of an incident involving the alleged ramming of a motorbike off the road in Fortunestown.
Two teenage boys who were on the motorcycle went to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a suspected firearm was recovered close to the scene and has been seized by gardaí.
Sinn Féin councillor for Tallaght South, Dermot Richardson, appealed to the community to remain calm and cooperate with gardaí.
“I would ask the community to remain calm and cooperate with the gardaí, because it will be innocent people who will get hurt,” Cllr Richardson told The Echo.
“I think people are shocked with what’s going on. There’s a good community up there in Jobstown and people need to stand together.
“I don’t know if these incidents are connected or what they’re about, but people need to stand together.
“There is a garda presence in the community so hopefully these types of incidents will stop.”
People with information on any of the incidents can contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 6000, or any garda station, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or 999.
