Residents protest against proposed ‘devastating’ changes to bus routes for Chapelizod commuters

HUNDREDS of residents took to the streets in Chapelizod last Saturday to protest proposed changes to the Dublin Bus network.
Residents in the area fear the proposed overhaul by the National Transport Authority will lead to a “reduction from six bus routes running through the village to one single bus route.”

Chapelizod Chap Lips residents group said this will have a “major negative impact on Chapelizod village and the surrounding areas.”
“The proposals reduce the 25, 26, 66, 66a, 66b and 67 to one single service with only one bus expected every 30 minutes with the exception of peak times. This will have a devastating effect on commuters, particularly young families and senior citizens and many non-drivers who rely solely on the bus to access services.
“As it stands, those buses are often overcrowded. With the proposed changes in place this could have a devastating effect on commuters. Many locals do not have cars as parking is already limited in Chapelizod village as it is a heritage village and roads are very narrow.”
Meanwhile, the NTA agreed to host additional information sessions in September across Dublin.
This includes the Lucan Spa Hotel (Sept 5 – 3pm to 7pm), Rathfarnham Shopping Centre (Sept 7 – 2pm to 8pm), South Dublin County Council offices Clondalkin (Sept 10 – 3pm to 7pm), Richmond Barracks, Inchicore (Sept 11 – 3pm to 7pm), Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre (Sept 19 – 3pm to 7pm), and Citywest Hotel (Sept 25 – 3pm to 7pm).
Public consultation for the Dublin Bus Connects plan runs until September 14.
