Riddell boys clean up at ISKA World C’ship
THE RIDDELL brothers, Zak, Josh and Jake, from Tallaght brought home six global titles, one silver and one bronze medal from last week’s ISKA World Championship held in the Neptune Stadium in Cork
Jake landed the 70kg Full Contact title after beating France’s Harouna Sall in a straight final before going all the way to the -70 Light Contact prize.
Jake, Josh and Zak Riddell turned in superb displays at the ISKA World Championship
In the semi finals of the latter, he saw off the challenge of Ukraine’s Volodymye Semykin to set up, what proved, a very tough decider against Nicholas Dusard of Jamaica with the Ljay’s fighter taking the win.
He was back up against Semykin in the last eight of the -70 K1 LK quarter finals and again proved too strong, setting up a semi final clash against another Ukrainian Mark Nazlolon.
Jake controlled this contest from the off and progressed to the final against J Rajca against whom he used effective combinations to win the title.
Zak Riddell beat Jamie Murphy of Samson Martial arts Cork to lift the -51kg world title.
He then lined out in the 15/17 -50kg LC decider against England’s Sonny Greaves and topped the podium before seeing off the same opponent again a day later for the 15/17 -50 kg K1LK prize.
Josh Riddell, after beating Ukraine’s Yakiv Khoprov, lost out to lillia filonenko in the 12-14 -50 kg Light Contact division, forcing him to settle for bronze.
He later picked up silver in the 12/14 -50 kg K1LK section after again seeing off Khoprov before being edged out by France’s Sandro Spica in the final.
