Rovers and St Pat’s look to maintain momentum

WEEK 8 of this years League of Ireland season had a bit of everything that is great about Irish football.

Plenty of goals and some excellent defensive performances.

Week 8 definitely has the potential entertain us just as much if not more reports Scott Mahon. Shamrock Rovers who made the trip to Dundalk ran away with a stellar 4-0 win.

St. Pats also had a comfortable Friday night in Richmond Park.

3-0 the final scoreline against UCD.

Both sides will be looking to once again gain 3 points, but after the previous results they will be looking to build some momentum on top of keeping the standard of performance.

The highlighted game this week is of course the Dublin derby between league leaders Bohemians who host Shamrock Rovers in what has become a must win for Rovers.

A second away trip for Rovers on the bounce, a win being the perfect way to push their season forward.

Meanwhile St Pats will host Cork City on Friday night.

A tricky game to predict due to both team’s form.

And the Cork faithful tend to spur their side on to get some massive results such as their 4-4 draw at Tallaght stadium.

Pats star man Chris Forrester is coming into a purple patch alongside major signing Jake Mulraney.

The two players got the goals from last week’s result and will look to continue their good form.

In addition to their goals, they were both named in the League of Ireland team of the week for matchday 7.

Marksman Eoin Doyle will be looking to join them in their form and if he so finds it, St Pats will undoubtably be a force to be reckoned with.

The Richmond crowd will be hoping for another positive performance at home which will push Pats right back up the table and in contention for the European places.

Over on the north side of Dublin the green and white army will be on the hunt for their second win of the season.

It’s a real opportunity for Rovers to not only stop Bohemians momentum and earn the bragging rights but really kick their season on and boost the feeling between the club and the fans.

Rory Gaffney continues his form in front of goal which he’s carried on from last season and former Sligo Rovers man Johnny Kenny has recently got himself amongst the goals.

The duo is proving to be dynamic and deadly.

They could easily be the driving force in seeing Rovers rise up to the challenge for 4 in a row.

The travelling support will be in full voice following their win in Oriel Park last week, but no added motivation for anyone involved in this match is needed, the fixture itself is enough.
