Running4Brian in the Dublin Half Marathon backwards
By Mary Dennehy
A TEAM of eight from Tallaght and Clondalkin took on the Dublin Half Marathon earlier today, in a bid to raise funds for their friend Brian Slattery – with one volunteer running the marathon backwards, reports Mary Dennehy.
Living in Aylesbury, Brian Slattery (28) is currently undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of metastatic colorectal cancer, which is costing in excess of €140K.
In July, Brian hit the €140K mark after the community rallied behind the local lad – who has started his treatment plan.
In an attempt to keep the money coming in for Brian, eight of his friends took on the Dublin Half Marathon on Saturday, with members of the public encouraged to support the Running4Brian team.
James Lumumba from Jobstown, who ran the marathon backwards, told The Echo: “Brian is a friend of ours and we wanted to do something to support him, with all money raised going to him.
“We hope that people will support the Running4Brian team and donate what they can on our GoFundMe page.”
