Sad to see Caritas College close after 56 years in the community

A SPECIAL occasion took place on Friday as Caritas College in Ballyfermot held a ceremony to mark a final farewell – the school closing after 56 years of education in the community.

Caritas is one of three secondary schools in Ballyfermot, along with St Dominic’s College and St John’s College, who are amalgamating into the new St Seton’s Secondary School which opens this September.

The three schools have hosted events to mark their closure in recent weeks, inviting teachers and students, past and present, along for a celebration.

Large crowds showed up at the events to wistfully remember the good times they had at their respective schools.

“It’s been very sad,” said Cllr Vincent Jackson (Ind) who sits on the board at the schools.

Caritas first opened it’s doors to young girls in Ballyfermot back in 1967.

The Leaving Certificate students this year have the privilege of being the last ever to complete their secondary education at the Drumfinn Road school.

Students, past pupils and teachers were among those at the event on Friday, many posed with Caritas Principal Tara Brady for some nostalgic pictures to mark the occasion.
