Saoirse awards night to celebrate inspiring women in communities

NOMINATIONS are now open for the Inspiring Women of Ireland Awards, a fundraising event celebrating women in different communities nationwide which is being organised by Saoirse Domestic Violence Services.

A charity gala ball, the Inspiring Women of Ireland Awards are set to take place on the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, on November 25.

Saoirse Domestic Violence Services (SDVS) is a not-for-profit organisation which operates two refuges in South Dublin for families fleeing domestic violence and abuse.

Along the two refuges, Saoirse also operates a 24-hour helpline, safe house accommodation, children’s support services, community outreach support and court accompaniment.

According to Saoirse, one in four women have been abused by a current or former partner and although steps have been taken to offer support in the domestic violence sector, “there can never be enough light shed on this issue”.

“We want the event to bring the issue of Domestic Violence and Abuse to the forefront of people’s minds each year and also highlighting our services so those who need us know where to find us,” Aisling Finn, fundraising officer of Saoirse DVS, says.

“The event itself is a major fundraising opportunity for SDVS, and will allow us to continue to give the support needed so these women and children experiencing domestic violence and abuse can change their lives.”

With nominations now open for the black-tie charity fundraising gala ball and awards ceremony, communities can nominate women across eight different categories.

Included among the categories are Inspiring Woman in arts and culture, innovation and technology, business, sport, community, team or group along with the Young Woman of the Year and Saoirse Inspiring Woman of the Year.

Event sponsors are being sought for the event and anyone interested in helping can also donate raffle prizes, attend the event, share content on social media about it or run a fundraiser.
