School requests double yellow line at entrance

A SCHOOL has requested the installation of double yellow lines outside it’s entrance to combat an overflow of vehicles parked along the road for a construction project.

Cllr Vincent Jackson (Ind) has raised the issue on numerous occasions with Dublin City Council over the last year, previously requesting a site visit to discuss a “serious traffic parking situation on Kylemore Road” outside St Michaels School, Kylemore College and St Seton’s College.

The Echo previously reported that teachers are having great difficulty in finding parking where they work due to construction works at the former Faulkner Industries Factor on Chapelizod Hill.

Speaking at the South Central area meeting this week, Cllr Jackson said St Seton’s and residents on the road have requested the double yellow lines.

“It is an ongoing serious recurring problem outside St Seton’s College on Le Fanu Road in Ballyfermot,” said Jackson.

“We have developers taking all the spots, every morning the whole length of the road, so much so, that the school and the neighbours across the way have asked that we put double yellow lines on either side of the school entrance.

“There will be somebody killed here.

“Today buses couldn’t even get down the road with the volume of traffic from the builders. People are entitled to park there, but it probably benefits the worst contractor in relation to relations with local residents, and I cannot understand how we are allowing it to continue.”

In response to Cllr Jackson, DCC said they would look into it and see what they can do.
