By Mary Dennehy
THE Cabinet has agreed tighter restrictions due to rising Covid-19 cases, which includes the closure of schools for the month of January.
In an announcement this afternoon, the Government confirmed a number of new measures, as they appealed for people to ‘stay home’.
The new measures which are being introduced in addition to Level 5 include:
All schools are closed until February 1 with specific exemptions for final year Leaving Cert students, who can attend school for three days a week commencing January 11.
There are also exemptions for the provision of special education and specialised settings.
All childcare will remain closed, but there are exemptions for vulnerable children and children of essential workers.
Construction will close from 6pm on Friday, January 8, with limited exemptions.
There will be essential retail only, with click and collect from non-essential retail outlets no longer permitted after existing orders are fulfilled.
Click and deliver will continue.
From this Saturday, January 9, all travellers from Great Britain or South Africa, must have a negative PCR Covid-19 test result received within 72 hours prior to arrival.
