Scout group beats all-comers to become All-Ireland champs
A GROUP of boy scouts from Bluebell are the All-Ireland champions, making them the best scouts in Ireland.
Eight boy scouts from the 91st Dublin Scout Group in Bluebell won the Phoenix Challenge last weekend.
The competition took place in Larch Hill, Rathfarnham, where over 78 patrols took part from every county in Ireland. It was a huge event, which saw a big crowd in attendance.
“In order to win the competition, the lads had to cook two three-course meals on an open fire, build their own fire, table and chairs, dresser, preparation table, and flagpole,” said Allen McConnell, Boy Scouts leader with 91st Dublin Scout Group.
“They had to show their skills in first aid, morse code, semaphore, backwoods (cooking without utensils such as raw fish and meat), building a bridge to cross a river, to name just a few things they had to do over the weekend.”
The 91st Dublin Scout Group in Bluebell was established in 1965.
“We have roughly 180 members (boys and girls from ages 6-18). If they would like to join they can message us on Facebook for specific times and days we meet (www.facebook,com/91stScouts),” said Allen.
The Facebook page also contains recent exploits and adventures undertaken by their members, including hiking and camping trips.
