SDCC areas win out in enterprise awards

TALLAGHT and Rathcoole were named Regional Category Winners at the 2019 Bank of Ireland National Enterprise Town Awards, with each taking home a trophy and a cash prize of €3,000.

In addition, Lucan village was announced as a Regional Runner-Up in its size category, receiving a cash prize fund of €2,000.

Representing Tallaght at the 2019 Bank of Ireland National Enterprise Town Awards are – Geoff Lynam from Bank of Ireland, Jan Cooke, Peter Byrne, Niall O’Reilly and Barry Flynn from Bank of Ireland, John Kearns, Amanda Mills and Tom Rooney

The awards were welcomed by Peter Byrne, South Dublin Chamber CEO.

“It is a great result for Tallaght and Rathcoole, vindication for a lot of work that has gone on in the community, but it also shows improvement, and we are already looking forward to further improvements next year,” said Mr Byrne.

Now in its fourth year, the competition provides a stage for local businesses, community groups and local authorities to show how they are working together to meet their own challenges and make their own opportunities.

This year almost 70 towns and urban villages were nominated for the awards and were visited by a panel of judges.

Representing Rathcoole at the 2019 Bank of Ireland National Enterprise Town Awards are – Christy McDonnell, John Neville from Bank of Ireland, Dick Butler and Ray Cooke

Kilkenny was the overall national winner for 2019 while Castlebar was declared the Rising Star.

Speaking at the awards in Kilkenny, Enda McDonagh, Head of Bank of Ireland for Dublin South, said: “Supporting enterprise and the financial wellbeing of individuals, businesses and their wider communities is at the heart of everything we do.
