SDCC severe weather team to discuss potential local impacts of Hurricane Lorenzo

South Dublin County Council's severe weather assessment team are meeting this afternoon to discuss any potential local impact Hurricane Lorenzo may have across the area.
Met Eireann has said that is ‘seriously concerned’ about the hurricane that is tracking northeastwards towards Ireland, adding that there is far too much uncertainty about the trajectory of this storm to be sure about its likely impact.

Head of Forecasting at Met Eireann Evelyn Cusack said they are waiting to see how the storm develops before issuing a weather warning.
"So while [Hurricane Lorenzo] will give some very wet and very windy weather, perhaps Orange level warnings will be the worst - perhaps touching Status Red on the west and north-west coast", Ms Cusack said.
“But we won’t be issuing those warnings until Wednesday morning”.
This afternoon Met Eireann issued a weather advisory for “expected very wet and potentially stormy conditions” over parts of Ireland on Thursday and Friday.
These conditions will be from the extra-tropical storm Lorenzo, which at present is a Category 2 hurricane about 3000km southwest of Ireland.

The National Emergency Co-Ordination Group (NEOG) will be meeting at 4pm today to plan for Lorenzo.
Gardai, ESB and local authorities have been advised to be ready to activate their crisis management plans.

Locally South Dublin County Council has confirmed that it’s severe weather assessment team are meeting this afternoon to discuss any potential local impacts Hurricane Lorenzo may cause.
According to the council: “As ever with weather events, we’ll keep you updated throughout the week”.
The council have also confirmed that due to the current weather conditions all pitches in the local area are unplayable from today (October 1) and will be re-assessed on Friday (October 4).
