
September Sports Star of the Month – Denis Crowley
LUCAN man Denis Crowley was the indisputable star for Ireland at the World Masters Rowing Championships in Lake Velence outside Budapest.
Boasting a haul of eight gold medals by the close of proceedings, Crowley emerged victorious at various age groups in the Single Sculls, Men`s Eights, and Men`s Coxless Fours.

In the latter, the Commercials Rowing Club man Crowley was joined by Colin Hunter, Adrian McCallion and Gerry Murphy who also enjoyed an exceptional regatta, with gold too in Men`s 8.
Hugely impressed by the performance of his compatriot and fellow World Championship contender, Michael Heavey said “Thousands of rowers from all the major countries were present at the Championships in Hungary, and none achieved what Denis Crowley achieved. To win one gold in any boat is extremely challenging, but to win multi-ple medals, especially across the range of boats, is an exceptional achievement” he added.
Heavey, enjoyed his share of success when he combined with McCallion, Hunter and Geoff Canning to scoop gold in the Men`s Coxed Fours.
