Seventh heaven for Crumlin in PFAI Cup Final
CRUMLIN United won their first piece of silverware this season when they blew Ballyouster United out of the water to win 7-1 and secure the Under 17 PFAI Cup at the AUL Complex on Friday night.
Crumlin are well in contention for a treble this season, needing to win just one of their last three league fixtures to win league and the Leinster Youth Cup, which is on Thursday against St Kevin’s Boys.
Rhys Brennan, who was named player of the match, opened Crumlin’s account after dribbling past a few players, cutting in off the left wing and slot it into the net.
On the opposite wing, Callum Bridgeman displayed his full bag of tricks, dummying the Ballyouster goalkeeper twice and a defender, toying with them before eventually putting the ball in.
That was after Callum McElliott diverted a Bridgeman effort into the net and it took Crumlin into a comfortable 3-0 lead by half-time.
One of the more impressive goals came on the restart when Christian O’Reilly hit a knuckle ball from well outside the box, with the ball swerving all over the place in the air before hitting the back of the net.
Leo Crabb then made it five after being played in by Ryan Kelly before Dessie Omoigui hit his team’s sixth of the evening after taking the ball around the goalkeeper.
Ballyouster opted for a long-ball strategy, and it eventually paid off, catching the Crumlin backline off guard at one point to make it 6-1.
Ryan Donnelly had a strong game in between the posts for Crumlin while Kyle Murphy was stellar at left-back, with Adam Coghlan rounded out the game with his team’s seventh of the occasion.
