‘She Wore a Green Ribbon’ – Looking back on Shamrock Rovers’ triumphs

After winning the FAI Cup 24 times between 1925 and 1987, the fans of Shamrock Rovers had to wait 32 years until its squad won last year over league champions Dundalk.
Addressing the 25th cup win and the long history of Rovers in this competition, club historian Robert Goggins recently published his newest book ‘She Wore a Green Ribbon’, in which the Hoops supporter captured the club’s involvement from the very beginning until that memorable face-off back in November 2019 in order to give the fans a full knowledge of the club’s cup history.

The season of 1921/1922 marked the start of the prestigious competition and saw Rovers reaching the final, in which the Leinster Senior League club lost against St James’s Gate after a replay.
Following that the Hoops booked their first cup win in 1924/25 when they beat Shelbourne 2-1 in the Ringsend Derby.
In addition to the detailed description of the history and a list of every Rovers result, the book provides a place for the club’s greatest players, including ‘Sacky’ Glen, Bob Fullam, Paddy Moore, Jimmy Dunne, Paddy Coad, Ronnie Nolan, Mick Leech, Johnny Fullam, Pat Byrne, Noel Larkin, Jack Byrne, Ronan Finn and many more.
The limited-edition publication can currently be purchased for €20 at the Shamrock Rovers club shop at Tallaght Stadium and at Bermingham Cameras on Burgh Quay.
All of the profits go directly to the SRFC Academy.
