‘Sickening’ attack on family pet dog in back garden

GARDAI are making enquiries in relation to a “sickening” dog attack which occurred in Ballyfermot this week.

The Echo understands a small pack of dogs scaled a back garden wall on Rossmore Road and attacked a dog that lives there on Sunday, January 22.

The family dog was injured, but is understood to be recovering at home.

A resident, who did not wish to be named, said the offending dogs, which belong to another owner living nearby in the area, have been “tormenting our neighborhood since they were puppies”.

“The dog is home but in a bad way. The owner’s three dogs have been roaming into other peoples back gardens since September of last year. My neighbor has a six foot walled garden, the three dogs jumped, to attack her defenceless dog.

“I’m not sure what type of dogs they are. The owner has four in total, including a mother that is locked up in his garden. Gardai took the three dogs away but returned then to the owner.”

The resident says gardai have been called before about the dogs but are told that there is nothing that can be done.

“It’s typical, when something happens, then they react. There was reports of a pack of dogs attacking a man walking his dog in California Hills. The poor children of families affected by this. Hopefully, the kids can recover and the dog can also recover. The attack is sickening.”

A Garda spokesperson told The Echo: “Gardai responded to a report of a dog offence incident in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, on January 22. Enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said: “The incident is currently being investigated by An Garda Síochána under the Control of Dogs Act, 1986. Dublin City Council Animal Welfare Unit will provide any assistance requested by An Garda Síochána in the matter.”
