‘Significant arrests’ are made by gardai following incidents

A NUMBER of “significant arrests” have been made in relation to incidents including the discharge of a firearm, arson, and criminal damage in Tallaght in recent weeks.

As previously reported in The Echo,  a 12-year-old child’s grave was damaged and set alight in Bohernabreena, there was an arson attack at a house in De Selby, and shots were fired at a house in Jobstown.

These incidents followed on from a shooting at the junction of Fortunestown Road and Jobstown Road last month, May 16, however no one sustained injuries in any of the incidents.

There was also a public order incident at the Applegreen in Jobstown last month, and as a result of the numerous incidents garda patrols in the area were stepped up.

Speaking to The Echo, Superintendent Tomas Gormley from Tallaght Garda Station confirmed a number of arrests had been made in relation to the incidents.

Superintendent Tomas Gormley

“With engagement and dialogue with the local community and representatives, along with the introduction of a number of short-term crime prevention strategies, we have significantly reduced the number of incidents in this area over the last number of days,” he explained.

The short-term crime prevention strategies that have been employed include covert and overt policing in the affected areas.

“I would like to thank the community for their continued assistance and support,” added Supt Gormley.

“There have been a number of significant arrests as a result of the intensive garda investigation that is still ongoing and we’re contemplating further arrests.

“We’ll be keeping sustained pressure on the criminal element that is active in the area.”
