Sister of missing woman appeals to public for help

THE sister of a woman missing for nine years, has lost faith in the garda investigation and is appealing for the public’s help.
Berna Fidan is frustrated that gardai will not allow her to see CCTV footage – due to data protection issues – that may identify her sibling Esra Uryun, missing since 2011.

“They will only show footage if gardai are in two minds (reviewing the footage), if they think it is Esra, they will show us. But we know her, know her movements, and what to look for,” said Berna.
“I don’t think we will ever be able to see any useful footage.”
On February 23, 2011, Esra left her Collinstown Grove home in Clondalkin at 7.20am to get milk for her husband Osgar and son Emin, but never returned.
The Grey Renault Twingo she shared with her husband, was found later that day on the promenade in Bray.
Esra’s handbag containing €50-60, was found in the boot on the car.
Berna has been over to Dublin over 30 times since that ill-fated day in an effort to uncover the truth, and firmly suspects foul play.
“She was always in touch with me, her mother and was preparing for our mum, who was travelling over that week,” said Berna.
“If she was going out for the day, she would message me. My question at the time was – why did it take the car half-an-hour to make a five-minute journey?”
Berna is referring to the first CCTV camera in Neilstown that picked up the Twingo after it left home.
Speaking to gardai when she arrived for four days last week, Berna was informed they have decided to review the case, revisiting contacts, exploring any scenarios or loopholes that may have been missed.
“While I appreciate that, this is year nine, why didn’t they do this earlier.”
There are nine cameras that gardai are looking at for movement of the Twingo, including cameras in Neilstown, at the Power City roundabout, and in Bray.
“We just want to see a bit of footage, we are not asking a lot,” said Berna.
