Snap up this 2020 calendar and help Tallaght Cancer Support

By Hayden Moore

TALLAGHT Photographic Society has pulled together to create a 2020 calendar of the local area with a portion of the profits made from the sale of it going towards charity.

Established in 1974, Tallaght Photographic Society (TPS) has grown exponentially over the past four decades and now they are doing their part in raising funds for the Tallaght Cancer Support Group.

Brought up at one of their weekly meetings earlier this year, the group set about snapping life in motion in a single frame from spots all around Tallaght.

Helmed by group members Mark Pollock and John Raftery, the group produced the calendar after being sponsored by 10 groups from around Tallaght, but knew they wanted to do something for charity.

“Lads went around to produce it, but one of the members was particularly passionate about raising money for charity, so we met up with Tallaght Cancer Support Group and told them we would give them a percentage of the profits – they said no problem and here we are, basically,” said Mark.

“It is one picture per month and it’s Tallaght-themed.

“We have places like St Anne’s church, the Main Street in Tallaght village, St Maelruan’s church, Tallafest because they had the tram at it, Tymon Park and places around there, just things like that.”

TPS printed 400 copies of the calendar and at just €6 a pop, they are “flying out the door”.

The group meets every Tuesday night from 8pm to 10pm in the Maldron Hotel in Tallaght and are open to new members.

Each month they hold a competition for best photographs at novice, intermediate and advanced levels for their now over 80 members.
