Something for the weekend? Irish Blue Cross host Bark in the Park
By Brendan Grehan
Hundreds of dog owners and their furry friends are expected to descend upon the Phoenix Park this Sunday (July 29) for the event.
Funds raised will help the thousands of sick and injured pets the charity cares for each year.
On Sunday the fun and barks will be at Acres Road cycle track in the Phoenix Park. Participants will follow a special paw-printed route of around 4km.
Aishling Kelly from the Irish Blue Cross told The Echo: “Last year we had over 300 people and 160 dogs of all shapes and sizes come along to our Bark in the Phoenix Park and the money we raised helped us to continue to provide low-cost veterinary care to those whose financial circumstances make it difficult for them to access private vet care.
“It’s a fantastic day out for everyone and an opportunity for people to help make a difference.”
Waggiest Tail
There will be dog-training classes and dog competitions to find the dog with the Happiest Smile, Waggiest Tail, Shiniest Coat, Best Bark and Best Overall Dog.
Training classes and demos kick off from 2pm and the sponsored walk “barks off” at 3pm.
While online registrations are now closed, those interested in participating can still come along on the day, donate as generously as they can and take part.
This is the charity’s 10th year to host their signature sponsored dog walks and with a record turnout of doggy lovers last year, they are hoping this year will be even bigger and better. The Irish Blue Cross hopes to raise more than €25,000 from their five Bark events this summer.
