
South Dublin County Volunteer Centre receives €171k in funding
VOLUNTEER groups are to benefit from funding of €3.5 million which was announced this week.
Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Seán Kyne TD approved an allocation of €3.5 million to support volunteering across the country.
Among the groups, the South Dublin County Volunteer Centre is to receive €171,100, Chambers Ireland are to receive €30,100 and Young Social Innovators are to receive €240,000.
Minister Katherine Zappone said: “By selflessly giving their time, work and effort volunteers are transforming lives in our communities.
“In addition to providing sport, arts and cultural activities they also work with some of the most vulnerable people including older people, people living with disabilities and those facing financial hardship.
“It is important that this work is not only recognised but is supported.
“The money being provided to the South Dublin County Volunteer Centre will be used to increase awareness as well as for training and guiding those who volunteer. It will help improve services which are so vital in our local areas.
“In addition our communities will also benefit from funding being provided to national groups such as Volunteer Ireland which has seen its core funding increase by €33,800 to €351,800. Its work in the coming year will include an I-VOL national volunteer database.
Boardmatch Ireland, Young Social Innovators and Chambers Ireland are also receiving smaller grants to support their efforts.
Each will be used to provide supports for volunteers in terms of training and support.”
