Volunteers required for parade in Clondalkin

The Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day parade is in need of volunteers as it returns to Clondalkin Village in March for its third year.

Chairperson of the Parade committee, councillor Francis Timmons said the parade has been growing since its inception in 2015.

According to Cllr Timmons, the first parade relied on a five-person committee, a limited budget and a time frame of six weeks to pull together.

He said: “The committee took the experience and feedback from 2015, and building on the foundations we had laid, organised a massively successful parade through Clondalkin village in 2016 and again in 2017.

“Over 700 people participated and over 8000 people attended. The parade was a huge success and it is due to the hard work and struggle of the current organising committee.”

This year’s parade grand marshal will be popular community figure Mary Dardis.

The parade will see performances from the award-winning Clondalkin Youth Band, as well as the Clondalkin Pipe Band and a vintage Harley and car procession.

The committee is appealing for volunteers to help with organising and setting-up duties on Saturday, March 17.
