St Pat’s U14s get better of Rovers in cup showdown

The youths of St Patrick’s Athletic’s academy took on Dublin rivals, Shamrock Rovers last weekend in the under-14 Eddie Wallace Cup that took place in Athlone Town Stadium on Sunday.

St Pats’ senior men suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers in what was a crucial title decider for the Tallaght side last Friday night in Richmond Park.

Inchicore’s u14 team sought redemption for the club, aiming for a victory over the Hoops and a chance at claiming silverware.

The game got underway at 12 noon with both teams putting up a determined and enthusiastic desire for a goal in true Dublin derby fashion.

Defenders Tadhg Prizeman and Alan Sattelle were holding their own before, Saints’ Finn Duffy opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a skilfully seized scoring opportunity.

With their backs up against the wall, Shamrock Rovers’ centre back Stephen Kelly bagged the Hoops a 78th-minute consolation goal to keep their dreams alive, but unfortunately the damage was already done.
