‘Stamp out’ fly-tipping

CALLS have been made for South Dublin County Council to “stamp out” fly-tipping along the Dodder, after volunteers last weekend hauled 40 bags of rubbish and bikes, a coffee table and a garden gate from a stretch of the wildlife corridor.
Last Saturday, July 6, a team of 20 Dodder Action volunteers set their sights on a stretch of the river that flows through Cherryfield, off the Firhouse Road – removing waste from the Dodder’s water and banks.

In recent months, Dodder Action volunteers have been working their way down the Poddle and the Dodder as the rivers flow through Tallaght, Firhouse and down into Templeogue – lifting bag-loads of waste from the local waterways.
After their most recent clean-up last Saturday, volunteers called on South Dublin Council to “protect” Dodder Valley Park and the local environment and to help “stamp out” fly-tipping.
They also called on the council to install CCTV.
Dodder Action volunteer and Firhouse resident Wladek Gaj said: “Dodder Action calls on South Dublin County Council to maintain this beautiful stretch of the river Dodder and protect it from fly-tipping, which is affecting the entire river.
“One of the finest city rivers in Europe is being put at risk.”
He added: “There is only so much that a volunteer group can do.
“We need proper CCTV monitoring and proper enforcement to maintain our Dodder Greenway.”
