Step back in time with the official Cocos-Spawell Reunion
By Mary Dennehy
Did you show off your moves at Cocos or the Spawell over the decades?
If so, you now have the chance to dust off those moves and break out the denim and the white socks for a Cocos-Spawell Reunion on May 5.
Old concessions from Spawell and Cocos
The reunion is being staged in Show Nightclub at the Plaza Hotel in Tallaght, with the night boasting some of the best Cocos-Spawell floorfillers.
Ian Cribbin is one of the event organisers. From Old Bawn, Ian was a DJ in both Cocos and the Spawell - and remembers the era fondly.
“Cocos and Spawell were the heartbeat of everybody’s weekends and were responsible for many relationships and love affairs,” Ian said.
“Some of these are still going strong today having met over cold chicken and chips, slow sets, a combination of pop and dance music and guys in white socks.
“[Cocos and Spawell] were the Studio 54 of Tallaght and still fondly remembered by everybody.”
He added: “Saturday May 5 will see the first ever reunion combining both venues, re-living the music and bringing everybody back for one more night on the dance floor.
“We felt it was the right time to give people the opportunity to enjoy the hits again with the original DJs and re-live wonderful times.”
Presented by 80s Clubnights, the special guest on the night is DJ Wicked Willie – with prizes to be won in a Miss Yummy Mummy Competition and Lip Sync Challenge.
Tickets cost €10 and are available on 086 4019450.
To mark the reunion, The Echo pulled together some of these images from old editions. Do you recognise anyone?
