Storage facility to rise from the ashes of blaze

STORAGE company Store It looks set to re-develop its facility in Ballymount, which was destroyed as a result of a fire in April 2015.

An application to demolish the fire-damaged remnants of the building and construct a new warehouse facility has been submitted to South Dublin County Council.

The blaze, which had an extensive response from Dublin Fire Brigade, including aerial units, specialist units and a senior officer on the scene, caused extensive damage to the property and destroyed customer’s property.

Almost half of the previous facility was demolished during and following the fire to ensure the structure’s safety.

Following the fire, Store It made steps to contact its customers and ensured them via a statement on its website that the facility was fully insured.

Stock worth €8,000 for the CLAPAI (The Cleft Lip & Palate Association of Ireland) was damaged as a result of the fire, with the charity appealing for donations following the blaze.

As part of the application submitted to the council, plans for the reconstruction of the facility include the removal of 1,382 sq m of the remaining warehouse structure and the “reinstatement” of 2,481 sq m of a new warehouse unit.

Included within the warehouse unit will be 189 sq m of mezzanine storage, 154 sq m of ancillary offices on two floors, 2,100 sq m of light industrial and 39 sq m of staff facilities.

New works for drainage and landscaping are included within the application, along with the relocation of access to the site from the Ballymount Cross Industrial Estate Road.

The boundaries of the site are set to remain unaltered as part of the development of the new facility.

Third-party submissions on the application will be accepted until July 25, with a decision on the application due from South Dublin County Council by August 15.
