Storm Callum: Gale force winds caused no major incidents in South Dublin County

WHILE gale force winds ripped through Dublin last night, no major incidents were reported in the South Dublin County area.
In a statement to The Echo today, Teresa Walsh, the Director of Environment, Water and Climate Change with South Dublin County Council, said that the local authority’s out-of-hours emergency service dealt with only eight calls.
These calls were mostly in relation to fallen trees at Kiltipper, Firhouse Road, Nangor Road and the N7 exit at Rathcoole.
According to Ms Walsh: “Met Éireann issued a status orange weather warning for most coastal counties, including Dublin, which remained in place overnight on Thursday and into today Friday.
“SDCC crews were on call overnight and responded to any call outs received.”
She added: “While there were gale force winds in the Dublin region, thankfully there were no major incidents.
“Council staff and crews are deployed across the county this morning clearing and cleaning up after the storm.
“There was no disruption to any of our services.
“A spell of heavy rain is on the way but no warnings will be issued.
“Tomorrow will be a very wet day. Sunday and Monday will be dry and mild.”

The council has reminded people to never approach or touch fallen electricity wires. Call ESB’s emergency service immediately on 1850 372 999.
