Students create strong friendship bonds making musical ‘Footloose’
TRANSITION Year students from Firhouse Community College delighted audiences with their annual school show last week, which this year was an energetic performance of the musical ‘Footloose!’.
The three-day run of shows was held in the school hall last week, from January 23 to 25, and gave the students a chance to tread the boards in front of their parents and peers.
The school musical is run through the performing arts module, which saw students audition to perform in the show, while those whose preference was for backstage work were also catered for.
The production consisted of the performers on stage, and other students kept the show running smoothly behind-the-scenes doing PR, costumes, set design, lighting and graphics.
Transition Year coordinator, producer and art teacher, Karen Scally, said: “They have worked so hard, created strong friendship bonds, and have created lifelong memories.
“It has been wonderful working with such an excellent group of students.”
The students worked diligently on the show after school and on weekends in recent weeks, and their hard work paid off with the final night of the show selling out.
The school’s production of ‘Footloose!’ was directed by Lorna Pratt, choreographed by teacher Megan Doyle, while singing was provided by the music teachers Marie Kennedy and Zoe Moynihan.
