Students raise the issue of recycling bins outside school

STUDENTS have taken to activism due to a longstanding issue over recycling bins outside their school which often leads to “disgusting” and hazardous material on display, reports Maurice Garvey.

The recycling bins are the responsibility of Dublin City Council but The Echo understands previous efforts by Inchicore National School to get the bins moved were unsuccessful.

Pupils from sixth class at Inchicore Village school protested the recycling bins located outside their school this week.

“While the students recongise the importance of reclining, they are outraged by the rubbish strewn across the path, treacherous glass and general noise and litter pollution associated with the bins,” said Joanna Rooney, sixth class teacher at the school.

“They feel it is time for change, our students deserve better.”

Local representatives were invited to the school on Friday, and some were interviewed by the student broadcasting unit as part of their efforts to raise awareness of the issue.
