Successful run of shows by Clondalkin Drama Group at the Black Lion Pub

The Clondalkin Drama Group was thrilled to announce a successful run of shows recently at the Black Lion Pub. Michaela Courtney of the group said: “Attendance was fantastic, we were pretty much full every night. For our last two shows we even had to put out an extra chair or two!” Reports Steven Reid.

Audiences were delighted with an entertaining and engaging spectacle each night of the show, and the group was quick to note the audience’s role in making the performances a success by saying: “The reception was fantastic, each audience was brilliant and they really got into it. Sometimes they laughed at things we didn’t realise were jokes! Each audience brought a great energy to the room that improved the show tenfold.”

However, no theatrical performance would be complete without a few endearing ruffles.

Shows take an extraordinary amount of time and effort to put on, so much so that often the cast forgets just how hilarious and incredible their acting truly is.

Michaela laugh-ingly said her group encountered the same issue.

“When rehearsing a show for so long we start to forget a bit how funny the lines actually are! We really camped it up as each night went on. I’m sure our Algernon (played by Alan McNally) will never want to see another sandwich again – he had to eat about 20 on stage over the course of the shows, plus a plate of muffins every night!

“Another unexpected thing was that for the last two shows, our Miss Prism (played by Mary O’Grady) was actually on crutches backstage. Despite this she still worked through it and played a blinder!”

With ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ now in the rearview mirror, the group looks forward to directing their energy towards a few one-act productions in autumn, as well as gearing up for their annual pantomime performance which is expected for January.

“Overall, we’re chuffed to bits with how it went and all the support we received. It took a ton of hard work but we will miss it now that it’s done,” Michaela concluded.
