Super weekend for Tallaght athletes

TALLAGHT Athletic club’s Rhasidat Adeleke, produced a World class performance when representing the University of Texas at the NCAA Championships in Texas last Saturday night.

Beating the race favourite Britton Wilson decisively to claim gold in the 400m,  Adeleke broke her own Irish record which, she set a few weeks ago with a time of 49.20, while breaking the track record and making history to become the first Irish sprinter to win a NCAA title.

Rhasidat also featured on the Texas University 4X100m relay team’s victory.

Indeed, it was a super weekend for the club with their juvenile athletes claiming 8 titles at the Dublin Juvenile Championships on the new DSD track in Taylorsgrange.

Hazel Jordan and Dean Nolan started the ball rolling when claiming the U18 and U17 400m titles with Dean setting a new personal best time of 51.87, and he later added bronze in the 200m with a time of 23.75, while Franklin Onwuzulumba topped the podium on three separate occasions after winning the U16 200m (23.36), High Jump (1.74m) and shot putt (11.80m) titles.

Uche Disu added to the tally when claiming victory in the U18 200m with a time of 26.33.

Dubem Amah was another in flying form when he claimed the U16 100m (11.49) title to add to the silver he won in the 200m, while Franklin Onwuzulumba took bronze (11.78) in the same final to add to his triple gold collection.

Sean Aigboboh won the U19 100m title in 10.97 ahead of Charlie Mooney who claimed silver (11.96), with Joanna Shodido adding to the medal haul when winning bronze in both the U18 200m (27.61) and 100m (13.23).

Others who performed well over the weekend included Khald Kourrini who finished 6th in the U17 1500m, Christopher Thomas 4th (11.82) in the U18 100m final, Ellie Carruth in the U17 200m heats, Amaya Mitchell in the heats of U17 100m and 200m, Emani Aspogba in the 100m heats, Michelle Markova in the U16 100m, Olivia Tyrrell in the U18 200m heats (29.43), Jessica Obasuyi in the U19 100m, and Jabita Oluwatobi in the men’s U19 100m.
