‘Superhero’ Darren runs 147km from Wexford to Dublin for Crumlin GAA
A ‘superhero’ of Crumlin GAA completed an unfathomable 147km run from Wexford to Dublin to fundraise in aid of Crumlin GAA Club.
Completing the remarkable feat as he ran across the finish line at Pearse Park on Sunday July 25, Crumlin GAA ‘legend’ Darren Hodgins was met with huge applause and cheers from members of the club, his family and friends.
The annual fundraiser for Crumlin GAA Club is usually a cycling event, but due to Covid-19 restrictions it was not possible for it to go ahead this year, and that is where Darren decided to step in.

Running from Taghmon, County Wexford – the resting place of Jim Boggan, Crumlin’s most successful coach, experienced runner Darren ran from Taghmon to Enniskerry and back on Saturday, July 24 and completed the 147 kilometres running from Wicklow to Dublin.
Speaking about Darren’s achievement and commitment on the day, the club said on the GoFundMe page that “Pearse Park belonged to one man today and that was Crumlin legend Darren Hodgins.
“Darren arrived back in Pearse Park in such good form and speed you’d be forgiven for thinking he only just ran from his house around the corner!
“Darren has set an amazing example to all of us that whatever you set your mind to you can achieve and has also proven to be an amazing role model for all our juveniles to look up to.
“Thank you, Darren.”
The fundraiser has raised a total of €3,932 at the time of The Echo going to print, and all donations will go directly towards the promotion of Gaelic games to children in the Crumlin community.
